What intrigued me most was how spot on Charles Darwin (the guy

who said we came from monkeys) actually was

He came up with this theory called "Natural Selection"

Most people have the wrong idea of "survival of the fittest"

The more accurate saying is "survival of the most adaptable"

(Whether you believe we came from monkeys or not...)

You have to agree it's not the biz who's the "strongest" that survives

but the ones who are best able to adapt to change

It's the ones who see opportunity in obstacles

And hence, my question for you today…

Is your business a MONKEY or a HUMAN?

Have you adapted and evolved to fit the current landscape?

Are you going to win?

If so, you need to understand that after 2021, the landscape has

changed irrevocably!

adapt in your business to make it pandemic-proof

As a matter of fact I’ve analyzed those businesses who thrive during

covid (the winners)

From my analysis I’ve noticed two fundamental traits that are

common among ALL the winners

What's up [NAME]!

Ideally, you should read this email after you read part 1 (which was

sent 2 days ago)

In that email I shared how there are winners and losers (monkeys vs

humans, remember?) in today’s new business landscape

Right now I’m going to share with you what are the two fundamental

(yet fatally overlooked) similarities among those winning businesses

The two traits:

1. A winning business has a proven product/service that truly

helps people (and is in demand regardless of season)

2. A winning business utilizes the internet to run their business

(most often used to acquire new clients)

Without these, you might just end up being a monkey business:

Lucky for me, my job requires that I'm surrounded by business

owners every day

So I get to see firsthand how these patterns lead to success (and

how the lack of it leads to disaster)

For example take my friend Fred (name changed for his privacy)

He studied and worked all his life training to become an expert

chiropractor

From all that hardwork and dedication, he indeed became really,

really good at what he does

Anyone who comes to him with back problems leaves with a “brand

new” back

Heck I’m a long time client myself!

Clearly he has a proven, amazing service that really helps people

He has a service that people need no matter what season it is

because it solves a painful problem

But the issue he faces:

• He only knows how to do chiropractic
• He was never trained on how to market his services
• He was never trained to leverage the internet to serve more people,

get more patients, and earn more money for his business

What’s worse:

The competitor next door is another Chiro using techniques that are

inferior (and possibly more dangerous)

YET they are attracting all the clientele in the area!

Why? Simply because they are able to market their business better

than Fred

It got to a point where Fred hasn’t been profiting for so long that he

was left with only enough cash to survive for another three months

After three months he wouldn’t be able to pay his team anymore –

affecting their families livelihood

And his business would no longer exist as well

(Maybe he might even need to get a job next door…)

So why am I telling you this story?

Because you might be like Fred

You might have a great service you know will help others and make

their lives better

But you don’t know how to market it online

Honestly who can blame you though?

If you did focus on learning marketing,

You may not be as good at what you do

You will not be operating within your realm of competence

And end up like the competitor with inferior services..

So the point here is that you need both

A great service AND a proven internet-based system that brings

clients to you like clockwork

High quality services aren’t enough if people don’t know about it

Gone are the days where we rely on organic walk ins

Gone are the days of flyers, television ads or roadshows

Gone are the days where we rely on chance to succeed

The opportunities, the money, and your prospects are all on the

World Wide Web

We need to adapt and fit into the new landscape of business not just

to survive but to thrive...

That's also why I'm emailing you!

Today I want to share with you about a mindset you may have which

is losing you money

As the owner of a marketing agency, I've interacted with countless

business owners

From startups no bigger than two co-founders,

To large multi-million dollar companies...

And out of these interactions

I've recognized a toxic mentality that harms a lot of companies - big

or small!

This mentality is a HUGE contributing factor to their poor

performance in marketing

But OVERCOMING this mentality is what allows biz to grow and

profit from marketing

So what is this toxic mentality?

It's seeing marketing as an expense

Businesses that see marketing as an expense spend money for the

sake of doing so

They look at marketing as a function — as something they should

spend money on since it's part of running a business

For example:

I know of some companies that think marketing is about

Creating some content, creating a nice logo, creating business

cards, designing a website, and posting on social media

To some extent they’re right — those are marketing activities

But the truth is, whatever they do usually does NOT result in new

sales and clients.

So what is the right mental approach to marketing?

It's thinking of marketing as an investment

To some extent, one has to approach marketing like an

investor/trader

You see, profitable marketing is not about creating nice looking

designs or doing events for the sake of it

It's more about approaching your campaigns like an investor

deciding whether they should buy a particular stock

He/she studies the markets, analyzes the business, looks at where

the market is going, and then determines the probability of risk to

reward

Likewise in marketing

It's about studying your prospects, analyzing the market, choosing

your funnel strategy

And then understanding probabilities of how much ROI you can

receive from your investment in a campaign

Business owners who start seeing marketing as an investment start

asking different questions:

"If I were to spend $2000 on this, how much in return would I

get for it?"

"How can I make that return on investment happen?"

"Has anyone done it successfully before?"

"What is required for this campaign to succeed?"

"What are the odds of me getting a return?”

“What are the odds of me losing?"

"How can I increase the odds of me getting a positive, high

ROI?"

"What skills are required to make this successful?"

"Who can I ask to help make this successful"

Instead of…

Should I make a website?

What colour should my logo be?

I feel like creating content on Instagram. What should I post?

Remember, when you ask better questions, you get better answers

This is how companies can invest $1 and get a return of $2, $5, $10,

and sometimes even $100 back in return.

Most people don't think about this but in my opinion

I believe marketing is the ONLY investment vehicle that allows you to

see huge returns in a short amount of time!

Probably more than the stock market, more than real estate, and

maybe Bitcoin.

But the biggest advantage of this investment vehicle is not just the

returns...

It’s more so the amount of control you have over its success

A big reason why I’m sending you these emails now is because in

today’s crazy world,

Having good marketing can be the foundation for HUGE business

success for you in the years to come!

And because there’s so much noise and misinformation out there,

I wanted to provide you with knowledge based on my experience and

expertise as a professional marketer for the past 15 years (and

So to sum up today's lesson — don't blindly spend time and money

on marketing but instead think of it as an investment.

Back in my school days, I used to hear this thrown around...

Just in case you have no idea what that means...

A bimbo is defined as someone who is "attractive but unintelligent"

Now as a business owner,

People are more professional so I don't hear it thrown around as

much

Yet I must confess — I've met so many companies that are like

bimbos

NOT the business owners... but the business itself!

I call these companies a “bimbo biz”

Don't get me wrong

I don't say this in a discriminating way

But more so

To diagnose a common problem that's stopping these amazing

companies from achieving the success I know they should

So what are “bimbo biz’s”?

They are businesses whose marketing is attractive... but isn’t

effective!

Beautiful logos, graphics, and brand aesthetics

Super well produced videos

But… hardly any sales!

So is your business a bimbo?

Once again, please don't feel offended

But instead let's look at things objectively.

If your biz is suffering from this syndrome let me tell you — it's NOT

your fault

I too have been a victim

I mean think about it

You watch TV, go to the Cinema, maybe walk down Orchard Road

and what do you see?

Ads from big companies that “look good and feel good”

Brands like Coke, Nike, Apple, and even McDonalds (I'm lovin' it!)

As a result, once we go out building our own companies

We tend to do the same...

We model after these great companies

Thinking “well if these giants are doing it, it must work, right?”

And thus, the syndrome of the bimbo biz begins...

But here's the truth

There are two types of marketing out there

One of them is called brand marketing

This is what big brands use

This is what big name creative agencies who charge CRAZY prices

utilize

BUT this is the type of marketing that is going to burn a hole in your

pocket

On the other hand, there is direct response marketing

This is marketing that is designed to generate a response — a

specific, and measurable response from a targeted audience that

views your ad

Direct response is when your ad or marketing asset asks the

prospect to take a particular action after consuming it

We call this the “Call To Action” or CTA

This is the kind of marketing you need

Because this is the kind of marketing that will make you

profitable

There are many types of direct response marketing too. You’ve

probably even consumed them before - things like Sales Pages,

Video Sales Letters (VSLs), Lead Magnets, Webinars etc.

So why is direct response better than brand marketing?

Why would it make you more profitable?

Here's a couple of reasons:

1. Because it's measurable and data-driven — you’ll know how the

ad performs and can tweak it based on the data

2. It's results and action-oriented — so you know exactly how your

marketing investment is going to generate an ROI

3. It's for you — it helps increase cash flow which is what you need

right now in the growth stage

Until you're making millions of dollars

You should always use direct response

As a matter of fact

Many successful bizs’ making hundreds of millions of dollars are

STILL using direct response

Simply because it works!

Understand that where you're currently at is not the same as Coke or

these other bigger brands

You're in a growth stage and what you need is cash flow

They're in a maturity stage and what they want, is to build and

maintain their reputation

So am I saying that you should never use brand marketing? Not at

all

All marketing is good

You need both

But you must invest at least 80-90% of your resources in direct

response because that's what will bring you profits both short and

long term!

This syndrome of the “bimbo biz” is why I have many clients who are

initially so skeptical of working with agencies

Because they've been burned by these other creative agencies who

promise them new sales, profits, and results, but fail to deliver

These creative agencies charge prices of over tens of thousands of

dollars just to create beautiful looking video and pictures that doesn't

result in new sales

Which is what perpetuates the bimbo biz

Anyway I’ll leave you with that thought for now...

Just remember, don't be a bimbo biz — use direct response

marketing and you'll start to see growth like never before

audience — and that's what we all need

complain about, it’s “shitty leads”

Usually they run ads to get more booked appointments or sales

calls with prospects AKA leads

But it always ends up in 1 of 3 ways:

1. They get little to no leads

2. They do get some leads, but the lead doesn’t reply or show up

for the appointment/sales call

3. The lead shows up but somehow it feels like an uphill battle

trying to close them

So what is this tactic?

Here in company my chief marketer (Mark) likes to call this “your

24/7 online salesman”

Because when you do apply this tactic you’ll get an equivalent of a

salesman who’s going to sell your services for you 24/7

In the marketing world, some ppl call these the “appointment funnels”

The main idea of this “24/7 online salesman” is where you run ads to

this funnel,

instead of your typical website you’re used to seeing

The reason why this works the best is that this funnel is optimized to

direct your traffic’s focus on doing one thing — booking an

appointment with you

On top of that, they are shown specific content on the page which

turns you into an expert in their minds:

After which, they’ll be required to fill up a form to successfully to book

an appointment with you:

This process accomplishes 3 things:

1. The form prequalifies who is worth speaking to, so you don't waste

time with leads who can't afford you/aren't ready.

And you only talk to leads that are warm and ready to take the next

step.

On top of that, there's a psychological effect where if they commit to

taking some effort to fill up the form

They will be more likely to commit to showing up for the appointment

— which increases your show-up rate.

2. They will learn more about your successes and services which

places you as the expert who can help them.

The funnel is really a sales presentation, with a very specific

structure that shows why you understand your audience’s problem

+ a bunch of your customer's testimonials and successes

So the trust that you can help them solve their problems is

established.

3. Answers objections

Most times the prospects that go into calls or appointments are filled

with objections on whether you can truly help them solve their

problems

By having a specific education flow, social proof, testimonials and

many more elements on the funnel

It’ll help answer these questions before they even speak to you (or

your sales team)
